Copper Foil Happy Birthday Cards

I just love foil – don't you? There is something so special about gold, copper or silver foil against a nice piece of thick card stock. Foil printing is such a hot trend these days, and we thought it might be nice to mix it up with some of our other favorite trends (delicate calligraphy and a folksy floral art pattern). The background floral pattern was digitized from an acrylic painting I did earlier this year in black, white, and shades of grey (not 50 shades of grey...but close). The "happy birthday" lettering was printed in a copper foil and extends to the edges of the card.  You can buy these foil birthday cards in sets of 4 with envelopes in our Etsy shop.

The plants – well, those are from a bush outside our studio. I can't take any credit for them since they were here before we moved in. I love the little berries; although they do cause me a lot of grief, since I am constantly shooing my children away from them (they think they are blueberries), and I have just assumed they are poisonous. If you know what they are, please let me know :)

New Letterpress Greeting Cards | Etsy

Above are just a few photos of some of the new cards featured in our Etsy shop. The Joy cards are brand new, and I designed them with the intention that they would be sent to congratulate say a friend or loved one on a big life event, or letting them know the joy they bring into your life. The possibilities are really endless with this card, and it's a good one to have on hand for weddings, births, graduations, showers, and so on.

The Oh Baby! card is an oldie, but a goodie! We used to print them with lavender and blue ink against the grey baby elephant, but clients had asked us for a neutral option and so we went with a warm beige here. Sometimes unisex is the way to go with baby cards – especially when the gender of the baby is unknown!

Our Something Old, Something New card is also an oldie, just in a grey ink this time instead of blue. Again, the light grey is a nice neutral and against the beautiful soft white cotton stock has almost an aged kind of feel to it, like a family heirloom.

Do you know the history of "xoxo"? According to Wikipedia, "the common custom of placing Xs on envelopes, notes and at the end of letters to mean kisses dates back to the Middle Ages, when a Christian cross was drawn on documents or letters to mean sincerity, faith and honesty. A kiss was then placed upon the cross by the signer as a display of their sworn oath". Cool, right? As a type fanatic, I also just love how Xs and Os look together!

These new xox note cards are available in our Etsy shop as a set of four with four kraft envelopes. How Denise Styled Her "Love Is" Corinthians Letterpress Art Print

We just love seeing how you display and style our letterpress art prints in your homes and offices – it is so nice to see where the prints end up (like little children going off into the world), and your décor and gallery walls are just so lovely!

The photos above come to us from Denise who ordered our "Love Is" Corinthians letterpress art print, and she placed it in a beautiful floating glass frame from Chapters/Indigo.  Although she created a gorgeous vignette, Denise is planning to give her print to her cousin who recently got engaged :) What a great gift idea! Hello. | Letterpress Greeting Card Set

If you follow us on Instagram you might have seen some hand lettering work I was doing a while back – and here are some photos of what those illustrations became. With a brush and some sumi ink I completed the lettering, and then created a digital version of my illustration and made it into a printing plate. We printed this "hello" card on Strathmore's Pure Cotton 110 lb. cover, and sets of 4 cards with kraft envelopes are available for purchase from our online shop. Buy a set for yourself or as a gift for someone special (...Christmas is coming...in 9 weeks...what?!). 

Simple + Pretty Religious Note Cards

A friend of mine's daughter was recently baptized and oddly enough (for a stationer), I could not find an appropriate card in my stock to give her. I went to the store and for the life of me I could not find a single baptism/Christian card that was not severely cheesy looking or overly ornate. So I put together a very simple cross design and printed it on our press. The cards are now available in sets of 4 note cards with kraft envelopes in our Etsy shop. A blue version and a blind impression (no ink) version will also be available soon.

For religious occasions we also have a few other note card options coming for different faiths. Stay tuned for photos!

Etsy Made in Canada Vancouver Market | Tomorrow 10 AM – 5 PM, Robson Square

So what do you have planned for tomorrow? This will be the first show we've attended since 2010 – isn't that crazy? I can't believe it's been 4 years since I set up a booth for a show (our last was a wedding show). Since then we've moved the studio a few times as well, so not only do I have trouble remembering all the items I need to bring with me, but everything is scattered in boxes throughout our storage! I know, I know, I should be better organized, but I'm not when it comes to show prep. Add in two little ones and the first week of school for one of them (because of the teachers' strike), and the start of various fall activities (ballet, gymnastics, swimming, etc.) and this has been the craziest week I've had in a while! This is probably the first time I've sat down for longer than a minute in about 7 days. Phew!

Above I posted a couple of photos of a new art print ("She Is") that we will have available at the Etsy show (and is now also available for purchase on Etsy). This passage from Proverbs is a special one for me and I have one framed for each of my daughters' rooms. Do you have any special quotes up in your home?

New Letterpress Note Card Design | Heart Arrow

Do you love arrows as much as I do? Sometimes when I'm on the phone I sit and doodle arrows (among other things); but I threw a heart into this one and I quite liked how it looked. After scanning, tracing in Illustrator, and then converting for printing plates, I finally had a chance to lay some robin's egg blue ink on this little symbol and print it on some A2 note cards. Because I spend most of my time designing letterpress wedding invitations and letterpress business stationery for clients, I don't get as much time as I would like to work on my own illustration or new card designs, or refining my own "style". This is something I think about often and am hoping to find more time to spend on. There are so many stationers and designers that have a unique aesthetic (i.e. Rifle Paper Co., Emily McDowell Inc.) where you see one of their products and know instantly whose work it is. Sometimes I don't feel like I'm there yet, and it's challenging. It's ironic how sometimes the "cobbler's children have no shoes" when it comes to designing for yourself, and I know I'm not the only designer that feels this way. I'm hoping to carve out some time over the next few months to start some of the design projects I have been thinking about for years, and also find the time to finish up some of the projects I've started but have had sitting on the back burner for some time now (like our website redesign - ugh.).
