Custom Letterpress Invitations | Inspired by W.W.

We recently designed and printed the above custom letterpress invitations above for Mary and Daniel from Ontario, Canada. If you follow this blog, you know I just love it when a couple wants to incorporate something special about their relationship into their wedding stationery – like a quote that they love, a graphic reference to a trip they took or the place where they met, a vintage family crest, or incorporating a grandmother's wedding dress lace as a motif on an invitation. These details are a part of your history, and should absolutely be brought to life in your wedding stationery.

Walt Whitman's "Among the Multitude" from his famous Leaves of Grass was a special poem for the couple – here is a snippet:

Among the men and women, the multitude,
I perceive one picking me out by secret and divine signs,
    Acknowledging none else – not parent, wife, husband, brother, child, any nearer than I am;
Some are baffled – but that one is not – that one knows me.

For the 3rd edition of Leaves of Grass, a copper plate was used to deboss the leather cover. We put together a reverse image of the plate for letterpress printing, and also used an Art Nouveau font for the bride and groom's names. A dark warm green was used for the custom ink color.

(Coincidentally, when I received this custom letterpress wedding stationery order a few months ago, my husband and I were in the midst of a few very intense binge viewing sessions to finish up Breaking Bad. If you are a fan, you know how Walt Whitman poetry plays a part in the series – especially the bathroom scene towards the end! This scene is probably the only thing I have ever watched on television in my life that has made me get out of my chair and throw my hands up in frustration. I was so angry at Walt for being so careless! Gah! It still makes me angry!)

In any case, these invitations were a pleasure to produce – and we wish all the joys of married life to Mary and Daniel!

Letterpress Elopement Announcements

We were recently asked if we design and print custom letterpress elopement announcements – and the answer is yes! If you are planning to elope you can still share the big news with friends and family after your big day, even if you are not hosting a get-together or celebration at a later date that would require an invitation. Alternatively, if you are hosting an event, you can multitask and include the invitation details with your elopement announcement.

We are so excited to be designing an announcement for our new clients who are eloping at the Black Rock Oceanfront Resort in Ucluelet (photo above courtesy of Black Rock Oceanfront Resort). What a dramatic backdrop for wedding photos!

Bright & Floral | Spring Letterpress Wedding Stationery

Spring has not quite sprung around these parts, but we're getting close! Above and below are photos of a custom letterpress wedding invitation suite inspired by Spring colors like bright yellows, pinks, and peach. You can find other photos of our stationery pieces in the Spring/Summer issue of Wedding Bells Magazine.

I wanted to share these photos with you to show that we do so much more around here than print letterpress invitations - we also print letterpress envelopes, provide envelope liners, letterpress place cards, letterpress name tags, letterpress thank you notes, letterpress coasters, and the list goes on. We also stock and provide a wide variety of ribbons, twine, lace, custom envelopments, invitation boxes, wrapping and addressing services, and embellishments like jewel appliqués and diamond mesh ribbon for your custom wedding stationery. Whatever your vision for your wedding stationery may be, we can make it happen!

It's been a long time coming, and we are finally getting started on revamping our Vancouver letterpress website, and we're so excited to make it easier to use, and easier to find the information you need. If there is anything in particular you would like to see on the new site, let us know - we want to cover all the bases!

Thanks again for following us on our adventures in letterpress! Have a great weekend!

BC Professional Wedding Awards Finalist 2013 | Best Wedding Stationery

Did you know about the WOscars? a.k.a. the Wedding Oscars? As per their website, The Professional BC Wedding Awards "is an independent, unbiased organization dedicated to finding and awarding the best of British Columbia's dynamic and creative wedding industry. These awards have established a platform to recognize some of the amazing creative talent, companies and individuals that make up British Columbia's wedding professionals".

This year Sunlit Letterpress was recognized as a finalist in the Best Wedding Stationery category – and we are beyond thrilled. And let me tell you, the WOscar gala is always a fun night! Surrounded by the most talented and creative professionals in our industry, my friend and I enjoyed the yearly catering competition and the antics of the MC Fred Lee – who this year wore a wedding dress. Unfortunately, none of the winners were particularly long-winded in their acceptance speeches that night – which was a real shame, since Mr. Lee promised a Rob Ford tackle of anyone who spoke for too long. I really wanted to see Fred Lee's Rob Ford tackle. Maybe next year...

Congratulations to all the winners and finalists in all categories! I'm already looking forward to next year!
